L.A. Deserves a Bike Share System That Works—Let Lyft Deliver It.
Lyft supplies bike share solutions to 60 cities across 16 countries, and operates bike share systems in six of the largest metro-areas in the US, including Boston, Chicago, New York, Portland, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.
Why Lyft?
Seamless Transition & Track Record
Lyft has successfully transitioned 10+ bike share systems to its technology over the last five years, including large-scale transitions, similar to Los Angeles, in major global cities including Mexico City and Madrid.
Within a year after moving to the Lyft platform, Mexico City’s Ecobici system’s peak season ridership nearly doubled, and delivered 22.5M+ total trips in 2024 (200% growth)
Supporting Local Workforce
Lyft is committed to workforce continuity by partnering with BikeHub, the current Metro Bike Share operations subcontractor and certified DBE firm. BikeHub will enable a smooth transition of the existing workforce and maintain the existing collective bargaining agreement with the TWU.
Lyft partners with subcontractors, like BikeHub, that manage W-2 and unionized workforces across the country. The subcontracted field team for Citi Bike in NYC alone comprises over 850 unionized workers.
Next-Generation Bikes & Charging
Lyft’s award-winning e-bikes will make up 80% of the fleet from day one, along with 50 of their proven in-dock charging stations to ensure e-bike batteries are charged and ready to go.
Lyft’s next generation e-bike has been deployed in bike share systems across the US including NYC, Boston, DC, Chicago, Portland, and San Francisco.
Lyft is a leading provider of bike share in-dock charging globally, with over 2,000 electrified stations deployed and charging e-bikes across 20 cities globally.
Smart & Reliable Technology
Lyft’s new Metro Bike Share app will make riding seamless and intuitive, with easy QR code unlocking, cycling directions, and in-app support designed to enhance the riding experience.
When Lyft transitioned the Toronto Bike Share mobile app to this software in 2024, it led to a 40% increase in non-member ridership year-over-year.
Expanding Access & Impact
Lyft has significantly expanded bike share service areas in major cities like New York and Chicago, and will bring this same successful approach to LA.
- Since 2019, Lyft has tripled the service areas and grown reduced fare ridership by 300% in Chicago and NYC, with nearly 700k reduced fare member rides in Chicago and nearly 5M in NYC in 2024 alone.
Ready for the World Stage
With big events like the World Cup and Olympics and Paralympics coming up, Lyft will help put Metro Bike Share front and center in LA’s transportation system, connecting residents and visitors to all the city has to offer.
Lyft’s team brings extensive experience supporting major events—from Super Bowls and World Series to Presidential Inaugurations and festivals like Lollapalooza and SXSW.
Lyft also has experience with Olympics-scale demand with its Citi Bike operation in NYC, averaging over 150,000 rides per day and reaching nearly 200,000 rides on peak ridership days.
